Abstract

In the past two decades, security problem in urban areas has been the preoccupation of the managers. Not paying attention to man’s security in public places, not only hinders prosperity, but also decreases the social relations and ends in empty public places. The purpose of this study is to achieve higher security standards in streets for the disabled to have higher social relations. This is an applied study. The method of the study is descriptive and analytic. The data and inputs have been collected by questionnaire and field study. The target group in the study is the disabled people in Tabarsi Street in Mashhad. Using Cochran’s Formula, random sampling was utilized. The participants completed 293 questionnaires. The data was analyzed through factor analysis with SPSS and PLS software. The results show that effective planning, change in physical environment, active space and increasing day and night activities in the street, light and increased access can have security in the space, because increased observers in the space decreases criminal activities and increases social cooperation between ordinary people and the disabled.
