Abstract

The variation of daylight during the day makes it an ideal source for stimulating the human circadian system; however, the quantity, quality, and appropriate hours of access to it are not always available in the interior space. Therefore, artificial light is necessary to complete human's visual and non-visual aspect of light. The factors of building design and interior design of the space have a great impact on the amount of incoming light and its quality, so it is necessary to review previous studies in this field and systematically categorize them. This review study compares the discussed parameters in this domain, dependent variables, approaches and evaluation criteria, emphasize the importance and impact of design parameters on human day-to-day health. Systematic study, the parameters discussed in this topic along with the amount of repetition in the articles include; human (11%), ideation factors (4%), geography and weather (8%), building (6%), window (31%), window glazing (6%), shading system (14%), interior surfaces (13%), artificial lighting system (2%) and furniture (5%). The most important dependent variables(measurement factors) in this topic are CS (47%), EML (25%), m-EDI (20%) and M/P (8%). The investigation of these studies has been selected in the latitude range of Iran so that, the obtained results can be applicable. The weak point in the previous studies is the lack of attention to the integrated lighting design process and the simultaneous consideration of visual and non-visual comfort; So that 74% of the articles, unilaterally, only addressed the issue of non-visual comfort and 26% of the articles addressed the integrated approach. It is worth mentioning; The articles in this current study have only dealt with non-visual comfort (unilaterally or integrated) and the visual approach (uniquely) has not been investigated. So, the lack of an integrated approach in the articles is the weak point of the conducted studies, because these parameters and their impact on the design should be considered from the early stages so that the plan reaches a right circadian rhythm. To meet this need, human-centered lighting (HCL) design approach, which places humans and their visual and non-visual needs should be included in the design.
