Abstract

The increase in air pollution and the impacts of climate change have led cities to adopt strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this context, micromobility—particularly shared bicycle systems—has emerged as an innovative solution to promote sustainable transportation and reduce reliance on private vehicles. This study focuses on District 6 of Tehran and examines the role of micromobility systems in achieving the goals of a carbon-zero city. The main objective is to evaluate the impact of micromobility on reducing environmental pollutants and improving urban travel behavior. User behavior analysis, identification of key factors influencing the use of shared systems, and modeling the potential for carbon reduction are the main aspects explored. The research uses a mixed-method approach (quantitative–qualitative) supported by statistical, spatial, and logistic regression analyses. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed among residents aged 15 to 65 in District 6 and analyzed using ArcGIS and mathematical modeling. Results show that young individuals with average income and no private vehicles are most inclined to use micromobility. Moreover, placing stations near major trip attractors and connecting them to public transport significantly improves system efficiency. The findings provide practical guidance for policymakers in developing sustainable transport systems and reducing carbon emissions.
