Abstract
Now a days, with increasing world population, engineering sciences try to provide human comfort. Meeting these needs energy consumption for cooling or heating. The issue nowadays is to save energy in new buildings without decreasing the comfort of people. In this paper, the reduction of cooling and heating energy consumption of buildings through a Double-Skin façade (DSF) was investigated for Moscow in Russia with the severe cold weather conditions and Yazd with the severe tropical weather conditions. The main purpose of studying two kinds of weather conditions was to compare the impact of the environmental conditions on the effectiveness of DSF. In the proposed scheme for Double-Skin facade in cold seasons, by blocking the upper and lower Double-Skin facade, the air trapped between the two shells acts as insulation and reduces energy loss. Also, in hot seasons, the heat transfer from the building is increased by opening the top and bottom of the shell and creating air flow between the two shells, thereby reducing the inside temperature. The results of solving CFD equations with Design Builder software showed that using this method in Moscow reduced the amount of cooling load by 33% and heating load by 9.5%. The results also showed a 30% reduction in heating load and a 17% decrease in cooling load for Yazd.
