Abstract
Introduction: In the interaction between humans and the environment, the perception of space by citizens is of particular importance. When people are in an environment, they record various information about that space in their minds, which gradually forms a clearer image of the surrounding environment in their minds. According to research, the mental image of men and women of the environment is significantly different from each other. Given these differences, the main focus is on understanding the relationship between men's and women's activities and its impact on future planning. In this study, the differences in the mental image of men and women are first analyzed from the perspective of the suitability of space on the sidewalk. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the mental image of women and men on the Tarbiat sidewalk in Tabriz from the perspective of the desirability of space, in order to create a framework by examining the approaches and theoretical foundations of mental image, through which the differences in the mental image of women and men on the Tarbiat sidewalk in Tabriz city can be analyzed in terms of the desirability of space.
Research Method: This research, with an applied aim and a combined approach of quantitative and qualitative methods, examines the Tabriz Tarbiat sidewalk. In the quantitative part, data will be collected through a questionnaire, while in the qualitative part, field observation method will be used. The statistical population of this study includes 20,000 pedestrians and citizens present within the area of the Tabriz Tarbiat sidewalk. Using the Cochran formula and considering an error of 5%, the sample size of the study includes 380 participants (190 men and 190 women).
Results and Discussion: The results obtained from this research indicate significant differences in the evaluation of indicators by men and women. According to men, indicators such as accessibility with an average rank of (9.45), identity (8.65) and awareness (7.71) were recognized as the most desirable criteria, respectively. This is while women, in their evaluation, have given more priority to safety indicators with an average rating of (9.89), access (8.75) and identity (7.62), respectively.
Conclusion: According to the research results, significant differences in the evaluation of indicators by men and women can be due to the different experiences and needs of each group and clearly indicate the importance of paying attention to gender perspectives in the analysis and evaluation of different indicators; therefore, understanding these differences can help advance policies and programs to improve the quality of life for both sexes and take into account the specific needs of each group.
