Abstract
The process of sustainable development in the building has increased the need for effective systems that contribute to energy efficiency in buildings. Extensive green roof system is one of the ideal ways to save energy that use mankind from environmental and aesthetic benefits. This study was conducted to evaluate the thermal behavior of green roofs and its stability in the hot and dry climate of iran. This present paper has a quantitative research method and also has been used from the document and library studies to complete the content. First, by using an energy simulation software (Design Builder) has been analysed the impact of factors such as plant height, leaf area index and plant bed height to calculate the annual energy consumption in a common residential building in hot and dry climates and then measured the amount of energy efficiency by assessing the most optim solutions. Simulation results show that extensive green roof is a practical strategy in energy efficiency and can be used of multiple advantages by exploring ways to optimize its use in this climate. Also, by the evaluation of the solutions has been saved up to about 8/54% in annual energy consumption.
