Abstract
Introduction: In recent years, government officials and responsible people realized the necessity of having an effective approach in dealing with dilapidated urban tissues. Contemporary city is especially in the implementation of renovation projects and improvement of worn-out urban structures. The presence and participation of the people in the interventions and in worn-out contexts plays the main role in the realization of the plans. When people participate in the implementation of development activities, projects and plans, the goals of this project will be easier to reach, and the development measures and plans will also be consistent with the needs and will remain stable. Several researches have been conducted in relation to public participation and renovation and improvement of the worn-out urban fabric among different groups and neighborhoods and cities. So that the scope of changing the size of the results obtained from these studies is very large. On the other hand, the dispersion that has taken place in relation to this issue and the accumulation of different researches requires a research with a coherent presentation in this field. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to use the meta-analysis method to analyze and combine the results of the studies conducted on the relationship between public participation and the renovation and improvement of the worn-out urban fabric. In this regard, the question is answered that according to the findings, what is the size of the combined and overall effect of citizens' participation on the improvement and renovation of the worn-out urban fabric? Which factor or factors can explain the difference in the results of the studied researches?
Methods and Material: In order to perform the present meta-analysis, 11 related studies that were conducted in the years 2013 to 2014 with the aim of evaluating the relationship between public participation and renovation and improvement of the worn-out urban fabric were selected. The selected researches were investigated by survey method and using survey tools in different statistical population and based on homogeneity and publication error. In the first step of the evaluation of the selected research, the assumptions of homogeneity and publication error were examined, and the findings indicated the heterogeneity of the effect size and the lack of publication bias of the studied studies. In the second step, the effect size coefficient and the role of the adjustment of the gender variable were evaluated by using the second version of the CMA software. The first stage of meta-analysis is searching among the researches and identifying them. second stage; The selection is based on the reporting criteria of the correlation coefficient, the significance level and the specificity of the statistical population between the two variables. third level; Collecting the necessary information from the investigated researches and in the last stage, the information and data are entered into the software, and the output of those findings is obtained.
Discussion: The findings showed that according to the funnel diagram and linear regression, the absence of publication bias is confirmed. The effect size or the effect coefficient of citizens' participation on the renovation and improvement of the worn-out urban fabric is equal to 0.573, which according to Cohen's interpretation system, this amount is considered to be a high effect. Also, considering the field of study as a variable, the adjustment of this effect size coefficient of province and city is equal to 0.559. In fact, the participation of citizens in provinces has a greater effect on the improvement and renovation of the worn-out urban fabric than in the cities. In addition, the lowest effect size of 0.391 belongs to ebadi et al. Also, the largest effect size of 0.629 belongs to Motamed Mehr et al.'s research. It should be noted that the estimation of the achievement point (0.573) based on Cohen's criterion indicates a high effect; Therefore, citizens' participation at a high level can be effective in improving and renovating the worn-out urban fabric.
Conclusion: Overall, the results of the research showed that people's participation is effective in improving and renovating the worn-out urban fabric. Although this amount is more among the provinces than the cities. Therefore, it is important to prepare improvement and renovation plans, including the construction of suitable roads, providing the necessary services and facilities, etc. in the region in order to encourage the residents to cooperate and participate in organizing the region. Also, holding joint meetings between renovation agents and residents; Correct and timely implementation is effective.
